The Department of Irrigation and Melioration is one of the main departments at Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agriculture Mechanization Engineers. The department was named "Irrigation and Melioration" in order to improve training of meliorator-engineers; and develop educational, methodological and scientific research works in the field of irrigation. The history of the formation of the scientific and pedagogical collective begins with the formation of engineering and meliorative branch of Turkestan State University (1923). Famous scientists V.Jurin, N.Yanishevsky, E.Zalessky took part in the formation of the department. The first head of the department was: professor B.Shlegel. In different years the department was headed by famous scientists and meliorator-engineers N.Makridin, V.Maligin, V.Poslavsky, V.Legostaev and B.Korjavin. Professors and teachers of the department conduct lectures, practical and laboratory classes in Uzbek and Russian languages. On 17 educational directions at the bachelor's degree and 5 directions at the master`s degree the following subjects are taught: “Introduction to Water Management and Melioration”, “Agricultural Hydrotechnic Melioration”, “Melioration and Recultivation of Lands”, “Agricultural Hydrotechnical Melioration and Exploitation of Hydromelioration System”, “Chemical Melioration”, “Chemical Melioration”, “Environmental Management”, “Water Use in Agriculture”, “Melioration and Protection of Lands”, “Methods of Conducting Field Experiments”, “Water-saving Technologies for Irrigation”, “Biomelioration”, “Reconstruction of Hydromelioration Systems”, “Landscape Irrigation”, “Projecting of Water-saving Systems”, “Link Between the Soils of Plants and Water”, “Measuring and Measure Means” (theory and application).
